Warty venus clams are also known by their French name of ‘praires’ which is, in fact, better because they are easily a match for the white venus clams when it comes to flavour! Warty venus clams have knobby, oval shells and are 3 to 7 cm in size, their shells varying in colour from creamy white to brown.

They are on most French seafood restaurant menus as “amandes” which can cause some confusion for visitors with only a French – English pocket dictionary for translations as outside of seafood restaurants amandes translates as almonds.
